Remote Desktop auto disconnect and logoff

From http://www.howtonetworking.com/casestudy/tstimelimit1.htm To set time limits for automatically disconnecting or logging-off a user from remote desktop session, follow these steps: Open group Policy by running gpedit.msc. Select Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Terminal Services > Sessions. Right-click on Set time limit for disconnected sessions. Select Properties. Check Enable and select time you want under End a disconnected session.

Convert and cut an avi file using mencoder from MPlayer

To convert an avi file to rmvb using mencoder try: mencoder "src.avi" -o "dest.rmvb" -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4 -oac mp3lame If real player fails to play generated file, then play it using mplayer. To cut an avi file (5 seconds is the total length to cut), use following command: mencoder -ss 00:10:10 -endpos 00:05:00 -ovc copy -oac copy "src.avi" -o "dest.avi"

MPlayer subtitle font problem in Windows

While playing a video with subtitles in mplayer, I was getting the following problem: New_Face failed. Maybe the font path is wrong. Please supply the text font file (~/.mplayer/subfont.ttf). Solution is as follows: Right click on "My Computer". Select "Properties". Go to "Advanced" tab. Click on "Environment Variables". Delete "HOME" variable from User / System variables.

Install Cygwin on MS Windows

Install all the x packages during setup. Rest of packages are installed as default. Open cygwin. $ xwin -clipboard -fullscreen & $ xwin -display :0.0 & Double click on third button in upper right hand corner. "Windows Maker Preferences" will open. Sixth last in the list is "Applications Menu Definition". Click on it. Click on "New Items" & select "Sample Commands". Select XTerm, drag-drop it to menu in side ("Applications" menu). Select the new command and change the program to run. Also assign a shortcut.
